Precautions to Safe Cooking and Kitchen Safety

To learn baking and cooking food, and eating is necessary for anybody’s life, but life itself is more important than anything else. Therefore, kitchen safety while backing and cooking is a priority and it can be observed by following basic kitchen safety rules and etiquettes. A small mistake can cause serious injury or mishap.

Kitchen Safety Rules and Etiquettes

1. Never cook in loose clothes, and roll up your long sleeves and cover  
    your hair. It is better to wear an apron.
2. Always turn pot handles away from your body towards the back part
    of the stove.
3. Always use mittens or kitchen towel to hold the hot utensils.
4. Always keep the kitchen floor dry to avoid any slips and falls.
5. Always clean your hands before touching any food items especially
    meat and dairy products to avoid microbial contamination.
6. Always make sure that the utensils you are using are microwave safe
    and compatible.
7. Never leave the kitchen with pots & pans cooking on the stove
    unattended.
8. Always keep matches and lighters out of reach of little children.
9. Always make sure all appliances (blenders, can openers, choppers
    and mixers etc.) are unplugged before touching sharp edges.
10. Don’t talk on the phone while cooking.

Handling Sharp Objects

1. Always cut away from your body when using a knife or scissors.
2. Always use a cutting board.
3. Always use clean and dry knives. Don’t use greasy knives. It can slip
    and cause injury.
4. Always wash, dry and leave sharp objects in a case when you are
    done.

Electrical Safety

1. Don’t use loose extension cords in the kitchen.
2. Always make sure all wires, cords, and plugs on appliances (coffee
    makers, toasters, blenders, microwaves, and mixers etc.) are not
    frayed and the plugs have 3-prong grounded connections.
3. Don’t leave water around electrical things.
